Transfer case is a type of specialized component that has been used on four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles.
It is essential on vehicles that use both front and rear axles to drive. And in the case of 4x4s, each of the four wheels need to be powered.

How Does a Transfer Case Work?
The transfer case transfers power from the transmission to the front and rear axles by means of drive shafts. It also synchronizes the difference between the rotation of the front and rear wheels and may contain one or more sets of low range gears for off-road use. Transfer cases give you the power of all-wheel drive, so you can take your trucks where the work is. Whatever the terrain; across sand, mud, ice, or snow, you will have maximum power in all transmission speeds and in just about any off-highway application.
