The front axle of a lawn tractor is made of ductile cast iron for the following reasons: greater loads, better vibration damping and corrosion resistance.
1. Front axles made from cast iron withstand greater loads, have better vibration damping than steel and a better wear, heat and corrosion resistance.
2. The cast iron front axle is strong and will not bend under heavy load or impact.
3. When a lawn tractor uses a cast iron front axle, it is likely that the gearbox is also made of cast iron, which adds more weight to the machine and makes the lawn tractor less prone to turn over.
The most commonly used cast iron material for front axles of lawn tractors should be ISO 1083 GRADE 400-15, GRADE 400-18, GRADE 450-10 and GRADE 500-7.
