T250 is a material grade of gray cast iron defined in Australia standard AS 1830. The followings are the chemical analysis, mechanical properties, applications, technological properties and related standards.
Typical Chemical Analysis for AS 1830 T250 Gray Cast Iron:
Carbon 3.00 – 3.70% Silicon 2.20 – 2.90%
Manganese 0.20 – 0.70% Phosphorus 0.10%
Sulphur 0.08%
As for normal grey iron, the chemical composition is not important comparatively. The iron foundries could adjust the compositions according to their experience as long as they could meet the physical and mechanical requirements.
Typical Mechanical Properties for AS 1830 T250 Gray Cast Iron:
Tensile Strength 250 - 350 MPa
Hardness Brinell 190 – 240
Compressive Strength 840 MPa
Only the tensile strength is the quality inspection standard. Other mechanical properties are only for reference unless the buyers have particular requirements.
Typical Applications for AS 1830 T250 Gray Cast Iron:
Hydraulics, Pneumatics: Pistons, slide bearings, distributor blocks.
Machine Tools: Bushings, guide rails, gear wheels, spur gears.
Pumps, Compressors: Oil pump gears, impellors, plate valves.
Tools, Dies: Angle plates, V-blocks.
Automotive: Pistons, pulleys, gears.
General: Gears, racks, V-pulleys pinions, clutch drums, sprockets etc.
