FGG20 is the most common material grade of gray cast iron in Belgium standard NBN 830-01. It is equal to GG20 in Germany and EN-GJL-200 in European.
This material grade is also equal to HT200 in China, CLASS 30 in USA, FC200 in Japan, G20 in Italy, FGL200 in France and ISO GRADE 200.
Chemical composition in % for FGG20 (Belgium: NBN 830-01) gray cast iron:
The normal chemical composition for this grade is as the following:
C: 3.3 - 3.5, Si: 1.4 - 2.4, Mn: 0.7 - 1, S: max 0.15, P: max 0.2
As for normal grey iron, the chemical composition is not important comparatively. The iron foundries could adjust the compositions according to their experience as long as they could meet the physical and mechanical requirements.

Brinell hardness is about 187 - 241 BHN.
Only the tensile strength is the quality inspection standard. Other mechanical properties are only for reference unless the buyers have particular requirements.
Applications for FGG20 (Belgium: NBN 830-01) gray cast iron:
It is used for housings where the stiffness of the component is more important than its tensile strength, such as internal combustion engine cylinder blocks, pump housings, valve bodies, electrical boxes, and decorative castings. Grey iron also has very good damping capacity, hence its use as the base for machine tool mountings. |
