ductile iron vs. gray iron
Some
iron casting buyers may be
confused about the ductile iron
and gray iron, so herein,
we discussing the ductile iron versus gray iron.
The graphite in gray iron is flaky shape, but the graphite in
ductile iron is spherical shape. Therefore, gray iron has lower
strength and easy fragile compared with ductile iron. However, gray
cast iron has lower production cost, easy to cast, better shock
absorption and abrasive resistance.
Therefore, gray cast iron is normally used to produce low strength
castings, such as bases, balance weights, boxes, stove parts etc.
The ductile cast iron is normally used to produce high strength and
ductility castings, such as brackets, crankshafts, connecting rods
etc. Ductile iron has larger application vs gray iron.
