Metallographic Microscope is used to inspect the
micro structure for the gray iron and ductile iron
castings, such as
percent of spheroidization (nodulizing
grade),
which is the most important factor affecting the
mechanical properties to ductile iron.
The
above is a metallographic photo for ductile iron
GGG50 after heat treatment. Normally, ductile iron do not need further heat treatment, however, in the cold winter, or for shell molding process, there will be some free carbide, which is very harmful to ductile iron, will cause cast iron become fragile. The proper heat treatment could elimiate the free carbide.
Our foundry has three microscopes, so inspect miscro structure for all cast iron production process.
